Dr Tommy Tan Kay Seng was a senior consultant at the Institute of Mental Health Singapore. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1987. He trained in general adult psychiatry and liaison psychiatry (psychiatry in general hospital) at the National University Hospital Singapore and the New Charing Cross Hospital London. He has a Master of Medicine in Psychiatry from the National University of Singapore and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore.
Dr Tommy Tan provides care and treatment for patients with mental disorders and other patients with psychological problems caused by their medical illnesses.
Dr Tommy Tan is the first psychiatrist in Singapore to receive formal training in forensic psychiatry. He trained in the Department of Forensic Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, London and he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Psychiatry from University of London in 1999. He is an expert in mental health laws.
As a forensic psychiatrist, Dr Tommy Tan has provided consultation to lawyers in Singapore and Malaysia. He is a well known expert witness in the Courts. He has been involved in several high profiled legal cases. He specialises in helping people with mental or psychological problems and having problems with the law.
Dr Tommy Tan is a council member of the Medical Legal Society of Singapore, a society which brings together lawyers and doctors who are interested in health laws.
