Doctor Tan Yih Kai obtained his medical degree from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1994. Between 1996 and 2006, he pursued his surgical training in the United Kingdom, completing Higher Surgical Training in General Surgery with special interest in Vascular Surgery.
Following this, Doctor Tan Yih Kai returned to Australia to advance his skills in Endovascular procedures in Royal Adelaide and Repatriation Hospital. During this time, he also gained extensive experience in open vascular procedures such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, bypass surgery and carotid surgery.
Doctor Tan Yih Kai has published extensively, including book chapters and engages in active research in the field of wound healing. He has given numerous talks and workshops to both public audiences and fellow health care providers. He is a core faculty member for the Singhealth Residency Program for General Surgery and is a medical advisor for Mercy Community Care, a non-profit organization. He has special interest in venous diseases, diabetic limb salvage and wound care including stem cell therapy for healing of diabetic foot wounds.
Doctor Tan Yih Kai is also the clinician champion in wound care services at Changi General Hospital, promoting and ensuring delivery of evidence-based and effective wound management. In addition to his demanding clincal workload, Doctor Tan is also involved in teaching and has been appointed core faculty for General Surgical Residency Program at CGH.
