Dr Tan Seng Hoe graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1990 and received his training in Internal Medicine at the Department of Medicine, National University Hospital. He attained both Member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom, as well as Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine),National University of Singapore in 1996. He subsequently underwent Advanced Specialist Trainee in Renal Medicine at the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, National University Hospital, Singapore. He received Specialist Accreditation in Renal Medicine from the Ministry of Health and the Singapore Medical Council in 2000.
Dr Tan was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan Scholarship from the Ministry of Health, Singapore and spent one year as a Fellow at the Division of Nephrology, University of Missouri-Columbia, USA, focusing on the recent advances in Peritoneal Dialysis. In 2000, he was conferred Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine(Renal Medicine), Singapore. He was also conferred Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2004 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2009.
Dr Tan worked at the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, National University Hospital, Singapore and served as Director of the National University Hospital Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis Programme. He joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2002 to 2008 and served as Senior Consultant and Head of the Renal Medicine Unit, Department of General Medicine. He was Director of the Central Administering Office for the Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis Programme of the National Healthcare Group hospitals and the Medical Director of NephroCare Singapore Dialysis Centre. .He was the Co-Medical Director for the National Kidney Foundation (Singapore) Peritoneal Dialysis programme. He is a Visiting Consultant at the National Kidney Foundation, Singapore and the Kidney Dialysis Foundation, Singapore.
Dr Tan has been actively involved in the medical education for the medical undergraduates, postgraduate doctors and nurses. He was a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He is a visiting lecturer for the Advanced Diploma in the Nursing Course (Urology-Renal and Intensive Care) at the School of Health Sciences, Nanyang Polytechnic; and served as a visiting lecturer and examiner for the Master of Nursing, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Dr Tan is actively involved with the training of renal specialists in Singapore. He was appointed a member of the Renal Medicine Specialist Training Committee by the Ministry of Health, Singapore since 2006; and currently appointed member of the Residency Advisory Committee for Renal Medicine by the Ministry of Health, Singapore in 2012. He held positions in various committees in Ministry of Health, Singapore, including member of the National Committee for Renal Care and Committee for Guidelines for Treatment of Glomerulonephritis in Singapore. He currently continued to serve as a member of the Renal Advisory Committee, Ministry of Health which is involved with the review and regulation of practice of renal medicine in Singapore. He has also been involved in giving expert specialist advice to the Health Services Authority of Singapore on renal related drugs.
Dr Tan has extensive experience research, having been involved in many international multi-centre controlled trials in patients with kidney diseases as well as patients on dialysis. He served as Deputy Chairman of the National Healthcare Group Domain Specific Review Board (DSRB Domain E), an independent committee to review and ensure the protection of the rights, safety, and well-being of human subjects involved in clinical research. He was also involved in the Research Committee of the National Kidney Foundation, Singapore. He currently serves as a member of the Parkway Independent Ethics Committee, Gleneagles CRC,
Dr Tan participated actively in the promotion of Nephrology in Singapore. He served in the Executive Committee as Honorary Secretary of the Singapore Society of Nephrology and presently continued to serve in various national committees, including Chapter of Renal Physicians, College of Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore and the Tender Committee of the National Kidney Foundation, Singapore. Dr Tan is also a member of the Medical Advisory Committee of the National Kidney Foundation, Singapore; as well as the Medical Advisory Committee of the Kidney Dialysis Foundation, Singapore. He served in the Medical Advisory Committee and the Credentials Committee of Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
Dr Tan received the Commendation Medal, National Day Award for Overcoming SARS in Singapore in 2003 and was awarded the Courage Star Award for Overcoming SARS from the National Healthcare Group. In 2008, he received the Excellent Service Award from Spring Singapore, a national award that recognizes individuals who have delivered quality service.
Dr Tan currently has an active nephrology practice at the Gleneagles Medical Centre and Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre, specializing in treating all aspects of kidney related problems.
