Dr Siow Hua Ming is an orthopaedic surgeon with about 12 years of experience in the field. At his Mount Elizabeth Novena clinic, he provides specialised and holistic care in sports, adult and paediatric orthopaedics. He specialises in advanced arthroscopic key-hole procedures for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip , knee and ankle. He also specialises in paediatric orthopaedics.
Upon his graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK (MBChB, 1996), he underwent basic training and then completed specialty training in Surgery (MRCS Edinburgh, 2002). After attaining his Master of Medicine in General Surgery the same year, he started his Advance Surgical Training in Orthopaedic Surgery. In 2006, he was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery. He then undertook a one-year fellowship in Sports and Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, USA in 2007 and was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery), Singapore in 2008.
Prior to setting up his private practice, Dr Siow was a Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. In addition to treating general paediatric orthopaedic patients, he is currently the only trained paediatric sports orthopaedic surgeon in Singapore. While he was there, he was also in charge of the Adult Orthopaedic Programme. He subsequently joined Alexandra Hospital as the Director of Sports Medicine and Surgery in 2010. There, he played a pivotal role in expanding the capacity and capability of the Sports Medicine & Surgery Centre. He was also concurrently the Director of Research and the Director of Training. He was a member of the medical board and chaired various committees in the hospital.
Teaching and training are aspects of medicine that Dr Siow sets aside time for. He was previously an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, where he was in charge of teaching and assessing medical students. He also served as the Associate Programme Director for the Orthopaedic Residency Programme of the National University Health System. He was Assistant Training Director for the Joint Committee for Specialist Training (JCST) in Orthopaedic Surgery. He has published in respected orthopaedic journals and has authored several chapters in orthopaedic textbooks.
Dr Siow’s commitment to his specialty extends beyond his clinic and patients. He is a member of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association and the Singapore Medical Association. He is currently a life member of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association. He is also a member of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) as well as the European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA).
Dr Siow has received the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital 10 year long service award. In addition, he has received Alexandra Hospital service awards culminating in the Service Ambassador award. He also takes time to serve in the St. John Ambulance Association, as Secretary of the Jurong Branch, and as Chairman of the Basic First Aid, Adult First Aid and Occupational First Aid Courses in the St. John Ambulance Association Management Committee.
