Dr Aileen Seah graduated from medical school at the National University of Singapore in 1995 and obtained her fellowship diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001. She completed her advanced surgical training in National University Hospital and became and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine and an accredited Specialist in General Surgery in 2005.

Dr Seah was awarded the Human Manpower Development Programme scholarship in 2003 and was admitted to a matched residency programme that was accredited by the US Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. She completed her Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at the University of Minnesota in 2004 under the mentorship of Dr Stanley Goldberg, Dr David Rothenberger, Dr Ann Lowry and Dr Robert Madoff and became the first American trained female colorectal surgeon in Singapore.

During her 12 years of service in a comprehensive Colorectal Unit at the National University Hospital as well as the National University Cancer Institute Singapore, Dr Seah is experienced in the management of a wide variety of colorectal and anorectal conditions such cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders, functional colorectal conditions as well as anorectal disorders. In addition, Dr Seah was under the proctorship of Professor Hironori Yamamoto, the inventor of the double balloon enteroscope. She developed her advanced therapeutic endoscopic techniques skills in double balloon enteroscopy in the evaluation of small bowel disorders as well as endoscopic submucosal dissection in the treatment of large flat polyps.

Dr Seah was the director of the Pelvic Floor Centre in the division of Colorectal Surgery, University Surgical Cluster, National University Health System, with experience in pelvic floor disorders and functional colorectal conditions like functional constipation and fecal incontinence. Dr Seah obtained her Diploma of Acupuncture at the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and became a registered acupuncturist in 2008. She visited the Colorectal Unit in the Third Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and is interested in how eastern medicine can work in synergy with western medicine for the treatment of conditions like functional constiptation.
