As Head of Department of Neurosurgery at both Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Singapore General Hospital (National Neuroscience Institute) from 2006-2012, Dr Ivan Ng was responsible for the 2 largest neurosurgical units in the country. He was also the co-director of the Brain and Behavior programme at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School from 2007-20013 where he has been an associate professor since 2007. He was the first director of the Khoo Teck Puat NNI Integrated Neuroscience centre at SGH.

A/Prof Ng obtained his medical degree at the National University of Singapore in 1990
and trained at the world renowned Academic Neurosurgical Unit, Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge University where he was chief resident from 1999-2000. He obtained the inter-collegiate FRCS (Surgical Neurology) in 2000 and was awarded the prestigious Norman Dott Medal for being the most outstanding candidate during the FRCS examinations.

His previous appointments include Chairman, Chapter of Neurosurgeons, College of Surgeons Singapore and Vice President of the Asian Congress of Neurosurgeons.
