Dr. Christopher Khng, specializes in Complex Cataract and Anterior Segment Reconstruction Surgery, in particular, Iris Reconstruction and surgery for Aniridia. His other areas of expertise include Complex Lens surgery, New Lens and Phacoemulsification technologies, Refractive surgery, Phakic IOLs (the Implantable Collamer Lens, ICL), and small-incision, topical anesthesia phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
He completed his first two years of medical undergraduate studies in Aberdeen University, Scotland (UK), finishing top in his medical class in both years. Because of cost, he completed his medical degrees of MBBS at National University of Singapore (NUS).
Dr. Khng served as Registrar, then Associate Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). Following his stint in SNEC, Dr Khng was a Consultant at The Eye Institute, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore.
He was previously the Senior Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Director of Cataract Surgical Services at AsiaMedic Eye Centre, and is a Visiting Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at The Eye Institute, Tan Tock Seng Hospital,Singapore.
He also held a position as a Visiting Consultant at the Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences of Alexandra Hospital, Singapore.
In 2003, he was awarded a year-long scholarship by the Singapore Health Ministry to pursue advanced subspecialty training in complex cataract and anterior segment reconstruction surgery under world-renowned eye surgeons Dr I. Howard Fine at the Oregon Eye Institute and Dr Robert Osher at the Cincinnati Eye Institute. In 2005, he won Best Paper of Session at the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) annual meeting 2005, Washington, D.C. for his research work on the eye’s crystalline lens.
Dr. Khng continues to couple his clinical activities with an active interest in both teaching and research. He has given lectures to a variety of Ophthalmic, medical and non-medical groups at local and international meetings. He is presently a Clinical Tutor, at the National University of Singapore(NUS), and has also lectured to University of Cincinnati Ophthalmic Residents while residing in USA. He has given lectures to groups of General Practitioners (GPs), professional groups such as the Singapore Institution of Engineers, and the general public. He is a sought after speaker and teacher, both locally and internationally.
He continues to contribute to Ophthalmology medical textbooks and scientific journals. Additionally, Dr. Khng has authored and co-authored several Ophthalmology journal articles, columns, and textbook chapters. His peers from both the private and public sector have consulted him on difficult cases in his areas of expertise.
He has worked with major instrument manufacturers in the US to create surgical instruments, one of which was designed to improve the precision of astigmatism correction at cataract surgery.
In July 2012, he was honoured with the Gold Award at the Annual Conference of Intraocular Implants & Refractive Society, India.
He is a reviewer for leading ophthalmic journals such as the British Journal of Ophthalmology (BJO) Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science (IOVS, Journal of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology), American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO) Ophthalmology (Journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology) and The Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JCRS), which is the Journal of the American and European Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Khng is a member of the Singapore Medical Association (SMA), a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ECSRS). He is registered with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) in Singapore and with the General Medical Council (GMC)
for practice in the United Kingdom. He serves in the Singapore Armed Forces Reserve Service, holding the rank of Captain in the combat support hospital. He is Singapore’s representative ophthalmologist faculty on board Project ORBIS, the flying eye hospital.
He does several volunteer eye screening services at the Community Centres and educational talks to schools.
Dr. Khng grew up and practices in Singapore but has resided in Aberdeen, Scotland (UK), Eugene, Oregon (USA) and Cincinnati, Ohio (USA). Dr. Khng is also an avid photographer, automobile enthusiast, Mac computer fanatic, aquatic gardener, tennis player, and thoroughly enjoys family time with his wife and his four children.

Dr Christopher Khng, our Medical Director formed the elite cataract 10 member advisory board of the Malaysia & Singapore Cataract Advisory Board to discuss the topic “Conquering the World of Advanced Cataract Treatment” held at the close door discussion at The G Club Tower, KL, Malaysia 27-28 Nov 2010 organised by Alcon.
