Orthopaedic Surgeon Knee,
Shoulder & Sports Surgery
Dr. Ang Kian Chuan graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 1990. He obtained his surgical fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1995 and after completing his Advanced Orthopaedic Training became the first of his cohort to obtain the FRCS Ed (Orth) in 2000. He has done clinical fellowships in Knee and Sports Medicine in the UK as well as Shoulder and Elbow surgery in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr Ang remains a Visiting Consultant to the National University Hospital and returns to perform complex Knee, Shoulder and Sports surgery. In addition, he is a Visiting Sports and Orthopaedic Consultant to Alexandra Hospital and KK Womens and Childrens Hospital. In this capacity he deals specifically with sports problems in children and adolescents as well as women. Dr Ang also runs a Sports Medicine clinic catering to students of the National University of Singapore.
Dr Ang is actively involved with sporting events of all types. He is the Team Physician to the Wanderers Rugby Club and Bedok Kings Rugby Club as well as the Bucks Rugby Club. He is also actively involved in providing medical cover to the players of the Singapore Ultimate (Frisbee) Association.
More recently Dr Ang has also featured on several Reality Television programs having been responsible for the medical care of the participants in the Contender Asia Muay Thai series as well as Season 4 of the Contender (Boxing) series by Mark Burnett productions.
As part of his interest in Mixed Martial Arts, he is also the official Team Physician to the Amateur Muay Thai Association of Singapore.
Dr Angs interests are in sports injuries especially of the knee and shoulder.
Most of his sports work consists of arthroscopic or “keyhole “ surgery and he has been actively involved in training surgeons from around the region in arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder.
He is also actively involved in the management of osteoarthritis and joint diseases and is a strong proponent of computer aided and minimally invasive joint replacement surgery Dr Ang is an avid wakesurfer, and manages to get out on the water at least once a week. His current passion is snowboarding, having just taken up the sport recently.

- minimally invasive surgery
- computer-assissted joint replacement surgery
- cartilage repair and regeneration
- stem-cell applications in orthopaedic surgery
- accelerated return to sports post injury
