She has worked with children (infancy through adolescence) with anxiety and mood disorders, attention-deficit and hyperactivity, attachment and identity problems, behavioural problems, major medical conditions, trauma, and developmental and learning disabilities. Part of her training was also with adults with chronic and persistent mental illness and addiction. Her research, studying the relationship between mother and babies, has led her to present around the world, and underlies her treatment specialization in parent-infant dyadic therapy.
Dr. Amy tends to work from a developmental, family-systemic, and relational psychodynamic framework, although she will use cognitive, behavioural, or skills-based approaches when needed. As an avid traveler and part and parcel to her ongoing work with diverse and expatriated populations, the cultural implications on identity and adjustment are particularly interesting to her. Dr. Amy is well-versed in nonverbal observational techniques, which uniquely contributes to her skills in assessment and intervention. Although early childhood is her core treatment group, Dr. Amy enjoys her varied caseload comprised of psychological testing, and individual, group, and family therapies. Collaborating with other professionals through consultation, professional development, and supervision is also a priority for her.
