With the humanitarian goal of safeguarding health with love, the Singapore Tzu Chi Free Clinic was inaugurated by then Health Minister, Mr. Khaw Boon Wan, on 1 August 2004, thus opening a new chapter in the Mission of Medicine of Tzu Chi Foundation (Singapore).

When the Foundation’s old venue in Chinatown was returned to its owner in 2007, the Free Clinic temporarily ceased operation, and then reopened in Redhill in November, 2008. The support of the Ministry of Health, officials from the Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency and Radin Mas grassroots committee helped make possible the clinic’s new home, which is equipped with medical, dental, TCM, health screening, minor surgery, and X-ray facilities.

The new Tzu Chi Free Clinic serves needy elderly residents and low-income families by providing free GP, TCM and dental services as well as organises health talks periodically to encourage healthy lifestyle practices among the public.

One of the aims of establishing the Free Clinic is to provide local medical professionals with opportunities to serve the less privileged members of the community and to experience the joy of selfless giving. In doing so, the clinic hopes to foster a more humane approach to patient care within the medical community in Singapore. Besides dedicated medical professionals, there are also Tzu Chi volunteers on duty during the opening hours of the clinic to provide loving and attentive care to patients, keeping them company and helping them when needed.
